X-ray detection and imaging are widely used in medical diagnosis, product inspection, security monitoring, etc. Large-scale polycrystalline perovskite thick films possess high potential for direct X-ray imaging. However, the notorious problems of baseline drift and high detection limit caused by ions migration are still remained. Here, ion migration is reduced by incorporating 2D perovskite into 3D perovskite, thereby increasing the ion activation energy. This approach hinders ion migration within the perovskite film, consequently suppressing baseline drift and reducing the lowest detection limit(LOD) of the device. As a result, the baseline drifting declines by 20 times and the LOD reduces to 21.1 nGy s-1, while the device maintains a satisfactory sensitivity of 5.6 × 103 µC Gy-1 cm-2. This work provides a new strategy to achieve low ion migration in large-scale X-ray detectors and may provide new thoughts for the application of mixed-dimension perovskite.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between Vitamin D levels and pediatric celiac disease (CD) remains controversial. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between Vitamin D and pediatric CD. METHODS: We screened relevant studies from PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science published in English from January 1, 2000, to August 1, 2023. The included studies were assessed according to the STROBE checklist. Heterogeneity was quantified by Cochran's Q test and the I2 statistic. Publication bias was estimated by Begg's test and Egger's test. Meta-regression was used to detect potential sources of heterogeneity. RESULTS: A total of 26 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Nineteen articles compared 25(OH)D3 levels between CD patients and control groups, average 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25(OH)D3 or calcidiol], and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3 or calcitriol] levels, as the main forms of Vitamin D, there was a significant difference in CD patients and healthy controls (weighted mean difference (WMD) = - 5.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) = [- 10.86, - 0.69] nmol/L). Meanwhile, eleven articles reported the numbers of patients and controls with Vitamin D deficiency, there was a significant difference in the incidence of 25(OH)D3 deficiency between CD patients and healthy controls (odds ratio 2.20, 95% CI= [1.19, 4.08]). Nine articles reported changes in 25(OH)D3 levels before and after administering a GFD in patients with CD, the result of this study revealed the increase of 25(OH)D3 levels in CD patients after a gluten-free diet (GFD) (WMD = - 6.74, 95% CI = [- 9.78, - 3.70] nmol/L). CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D levels in pediatric CD patients were lower than in healthy controls, and 25(OH)D3 deficiency was more prevalent in CD patients. We found that 25(OH)D3 levels were elevated in CD patients after GFD, which is consistent with previous research. Further well-designed, longitudinal, prospective cohort studies focusing on the role of Vitamin D in the pathogenesis of CD are therefore needed.

Solution-processed lead halide perovskite single crystals (LHPSCs) are believed to have great potential in gamma-ray spectroscopy. However, obtaining low-defect LHPSCs from a solution at low temperatures is difficult compared to obtaining Bridgman single crystals such as CdTe and Si. Herein, noise from the intrinsic defects of LHPSCs is considered as the main problem hindering their gamma-ray detection performance. By isolating the defect-induced holes in LHPSCs via energy barriers, we show that NIN photodiodes based on three types of LHPSCs, i.e., MAPbBr3 (MA = CH3NH3), MAPbBr2.5Cl0.5, and cascade LHPSCs, have demonstrated good energy resolution in the range of 6.7-10.3% for 662 keV 137Cs gamma-ray photons. The noise for >10 mm3 devices is low, in the order of 340-860 electrons, and the electron collection efficiency reaches 23-43%. These results pave the way for obtaining low-cost, large, high energy-resolution gamma-ray detectors at room temperature (300 K).

Human rotavirus (RV) and adenovirus (AdV) have been recognized as common enteric viruses associated with viral acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in children aged<5 years. However, with the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been suppressed due to various aggressive and effective anti-epidemic measures, the prevalence of other viruses has also been affected. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the epidemiological characterization of RV, AdV, and coinfections among children with AGE in a hospital in Hangzhou from 2019 to 2023. The overall changes, seasonal distribution, and age distribution of enteroviruses were analyzed based on 5 years of records. All data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0. A total of 102,049 samples were analyzed from January 2019 to August 2023, and among them 15,911 (15.59%) were positive specimens, 11,646 (11.41%) were RV-positive, 4,057 (3.98%) were AdV-positive, and 208 (0.20%) were coinfection. The positive rate among males was 15.54%, while among females was 15.66% with a male-to-female ratio of 1.42:1. There was no significant difference in the positive rates of enterovirus infection between males and females. Significant associations were found between the month group and RV/AdV infection, with RV detection peaking in winter (74.18%) and early spring (29.22%), while AdV has a high prevalence in summer (16.03%) and spring (12.71%). The age group was also found to be significantly associated with RV/AdV infection, with RV being most prevalent in the 1-3-year-old age group (16.99%), while AdV was highest in the 3-5-year-old age group (8.10%).IMPORTANCEThis study highlights the epidemiological changes of rotavirus (RV), adenovirus (AdV), and coinfections in children with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) before, during, and after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) periods. There was a highly statistically significant difference in the positive rates of RV-positive, AdV-positive, and coinfection (P < 0.001), indicating that RV remains the main pathogen causing AGE. It emphasizes the importance of continuous surveillance of RV and AdV at both local and global levels. Regular surveillance of prevalent rotavirus strains will facilitate the development of new inactivated rotavirus vaccines and aid in disease prevention and control.

Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) not only reduce the prevalence of this disease among children but also influence the transmission of other viruses. This retrospective study investigated the impact of NPIs on human enterovirus (HEV) infection in children diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) or herpangina (HA) in Hangzhou, China. We collected and analyzed the laboratory results and clinical data of children diagnosed with HFMD or HA during the following periods: pre-COVID-19 (January 2019 to December 2019), the COVID-19 pandemic (January 2020 to December 2022), and post-COVID-19 (January to December 2023). A total of 41 742 specimens that met the inclusion criteria were obtained, of which 1998 (4.79%) tested positive for enterovirus. In comparison to those in the pre-COVID-19 period, which had 695 (5.63%) HEV-positive specimens, the numbers dramatically decreased to 69 (1.19%), 398 (5.12%), and 112 (1.58%) in 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively, but significantly increased to 724 (8.27%) in 2023. Seasonal peaks of infections occurred in May, June, July, and August each year, with the total detection rate ranging from 2019 to 2023 being 9.41% in May, 22.47% in June, 28.23% in July, and 12.16% in August, respectively. The difference in the detection rates of HEV infection between males and females was statistically significant (p < 0.005), with 5.11% (1221/23 898) of males and 4.35% (777/17 844) of females testing positive, resulting in a male-to-female positive ratio of 1.57:1. Among the age groups, 11.25% (378/3360) of the children aged 3-5 years had the highest detection rate, which steadily decreased with increasing or decreasing age. The detection of HEV indicated that >95% of the viruses were other types than the previously commonly reported enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16). In conclusion, NPIs for COVID-19 may be effective at reducing the transmission of HEV. However, with the relaxation of NPIs, the detection rate of HEVs increased slowly to a certain extent. Active awareness and surveillance of the epidemiological characteristics of HEV are essential for preventing, controlling, and managing the development of HFMD and HA, as well as contributing to the development of a multivalent HFMD vaccine.

Smoking is a documented risk factor for cancer, e.g., gastric cancer. Nicotine, the principal tobacco alkaloid, would exert its role of contribution to gastric cancer development and progression through nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) and ß-adrenergic receptors (ß-ARs), which then promote cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion. As a key isoenzyme in conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has been demonstrated to have a wide range of effects in carcinogenesis and tumor development. At present, many studies have reported the effect of nicotine on gastric cancer by binding to nAChR, as well as indirectly stimulating ß-AR to mediate COX-2-related pathways. This review summarizes these studies, and also proposes more potential COX-2-mediated mechanisms. These events might contribute to the growth and progression of gastric cancer exposed to nicotine through tobacco smoke or cigarette substitutes. Also, this review article has therefore the potential not only to make a significant contribution to the treatment and prognosis of gastric cancer for smokers but also to the clinical application of COX-2 antagonists. In addition, this work also discusses the considerable challenges of this field with special reference to the future perspective of COX-2-mediated mechanisms in development and progression of gastric cancer induced by nicotine.

Objective: This work assessed the impact of drug therapy combined with pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training on specific lung function and respiratory parameters of lung cancer (LC) patients after thoracoscopic lobectomy. Methods: 88 LC patients who had undergone thoracoscopic lobectomy were selected based on their surgical indications and health condition. The study aimed to explore methods to assist patients in their postoperative recovery; therefore, patients meeting the surgical criteria were chosen to ensure the internal validity and external applicability of the results. Meanwhile, these 88 LC patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy were randomly allocated into an experimental group (EG, 44 cases) and a control group (CG, 44 cases). The EG received inhalation therapy with albuterol sulfate nebulizer solution and personalized pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training, while the CG received nebulized treatment alone. The study lasted for three months. The pulmonary rehabilitation program included regular physical exercises, including respiratory training and physical fitness training, among other activities. Results: After pulmonary lobectomy surgery, both groups of patients showed a significant decrease in (1) forced vital capacity (FVC), (2) forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), (3) maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV), and (4) peak expiratory flow (PEF). However, the values of FVC, FEV1, MVV, and PEF in the EG were significantly higher than those in the CG (P < .05). Furthermore, both groups demonstrated significant improvements in the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) results after lung lobectomy; however, the 6MWT results in the EG also significantly increased (P < .05). In terms of dyspnea index (DI), after lung lobectomy, the DI for both groups of patients significantly increased, but the DI in the EG was significantly lower than that in the CG (P < .05). Conclusions: The combined application of drug therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training contributed to promoting cardiopulmonary function and respiratory muscle recovery in LC patients after thoracoscopic lobectomy. This was crucial for improving the quality of life of patients, as enhanced cardiopulmonary function and respiratory muscle recovery can alleviate postoperative respiratory difficulties, increase the physical stamina and activity levels of patients. This may help reduce the risk of postoperative complications, shorten hospital stays, and potentially improve long-term survival rates. Consequently, these results could have a positive impact on the development of postoperative care and treatment strategies. However, this work was subjected to several limitations, including a relatively short duration, necessitating longer-term follow-up to assess long-term effects. Additionally, the sample size was relatively small, and further large-scale research was needed to validate these findings.

Nicotine enters the environment mainly through human activity, as well as natural sources. This review article examines the increasing evidence implicating nicotine in the initiation and progression of lung cancer. Moreover, it primarily focuses on elucidating the activation mechanism of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (PKB, also known as AKT) signaling pathway, regulated by α7 subtype nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR), in relation to the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of lung cancer cells induced by nicotine, as well as nicotine-mediated anti-apoptotic effects. This process involves PI3K/AKT phosphorylated-B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) family proteins, PI3K/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), PI3K/AKT/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/cellular-mesenchymal epithelial transition factor (c-Met)-induced PI3K/AKT and PI3K/AKT activated-hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathways. In addition, we also deliberated on the related challenges and upcoming prospects within this field. These lay the foundation for further study on nicotine, lung tumorigenesis, and PI3K/AKT related molecular mechanisms. This work has the potential to significantly contribute to the treatment and prognosis of gastric cancer in smokers. Besides, the crucial significance of PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in multiple molecular pathways also suggests that its target antagonists may inhibit the development and progression of lung cancer, providing a possible new perspective for solving the problem of nicotine-promoted lung cancer. The emerging knowledge about the carcinogenic mechanisms of nicotine action should be considered during the environmental assessment of tobacco and other nicotine-containing products.

Narrowband photodetectors have wide application potential in high-resolution imaging and encrypted communication, due to their high-precision spectral resolution capability. In this work, we report a fast response, high spectral rejection ratio, and self-filtered ultranarrowband photodetector with a new mechanism, which introduces bulk recombination by doping Bi3+ and cooperates with surface recombination for further quenching photogenerated charges generated by short-wavelength-light excitation in perovskite single-crystal. A perovskite film focused on collecting charges is fabricated on the single crystal by a lattice-matched solution-processed epitaxial growth method. Due to the formation of PN heterojunctions, a narrowband photodetector in this mechanism has remarkable spectral selectivity and detection performance with an ultranarrow full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 7.7 nm and a high spectral rejection ratio of 790, as well as a high specific detectivity up to 1.5 × 1010 Jones, a fast response speed with a rise time and fall time of ∼8 and 137 µs. The ultrafast and ultranarrow spectra response of self-filtered narrowband photodetector provides a new strategy in high-precision and high-resolution photoelectric detection.

MicroRNA (miRNA) has gained significant attention as a potential biomarker for cancer clinics, and there is an urgent need for developing sensing strategies with high selectivity, sensitivity, and low background. In vitro diagnosis based on Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats/CRISPR-Associated protein (CRISPR/Cas) technology could simplify the detection procedure, improve sensitivity and selectivity, and has broad application prospects as the next-generation molecular diagnosis technology. We propose a novel dual signal amplification strategy, called CENTER, which integrates the CRISPR/Cas12a system, an entropy-driven DNA signaling network, and strand displacement amplification to achieve ultrasensitive detection of miR-141, a potential marker for prostate cancer. The experimental results demonstrate that CENTER can distinguish single nucleotide mutations, and the strategy exhibits a good linear calibration curve ranging from 100 aM to 1 pM. Due to dual signal amplification, the detection limit is as low as 34 aM. We proposed a method for identifying miR-141 expressed in human serum and successfully distinguished between prostate cancer patients (n = 20) and healthy individuals (n = 15) with an impressive accuracy of 94%. Overall, CENTER shows great promise for the detection of miRNA.

Lung cancer is the most common malignant tumor worldwide. In recent years, the incidence of lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) has increased significantly, with an unfavorable 5-year survival rate. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to play a significant role in the emergence, growth, and metastasis of tumors. However, the functional role and mechanism of LINC00943 in LAD progression have not yet been investigated. Aberrant expressions of LINC00943, miR-1252-5p, and YWHAH were determined by RT-qPCR and Western blot analyses. The binding relationship between miR-1252-5p and LINC00943 or YWHAH was examined by Pearson's correlation analysis, RNA pull-down, and dual-luciferase reporter assays. MTT assay was conducted to measure cell viability and colony formation assay was performed to evaluate cell proliferation potential. Transwell assay was used to investigate cell migration and invasion and flow cytometry was applied to evaluate cell apoptosis. We found that LINC00943 was highly expressed in LAD tissue samples and cell lines and was a reliable biomarker with high sensitivity, and specificity (P < 0.0001; AUC: 0.8966) for LAD detection. LINC00943 was mainly localized in the cytoplasm. In vitro, LINC00943 promoted LAD cell proliferation, migration, and invasion; however, silencing LINC00943 inhibited LAD tumor metastasis. Mechanistically, LINC00943 was competitively bound with miR-1252-5p to enhance YWHAH expression. Moreover, LINC00943 silencing sponged miR-1252-5p to inhibit YWHAH, thereby retraining LAD cell malignant behaviors. In summary, LINC00943 facilitates LAD cell malignancy through sponging miR-1252-5p to upregulate YWHAH. LINC00943 is a novel lncRNA that serves as an oncogene and might be used as a prognostic biomarker for LAD.

Background: Previous studies have reported that the incidence of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is related to vitamin D, but it is still unclear. This study intends to calculate the relationship between pediatric IBD and vitamin D. Methods: A comprehensive literature search from inception to January 2023 was performed in the PubMed, EMBASE, Medline, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. Relevant data were extracted as required and used for subsequent calculations. Results: Sixteen papers were included, and there was no significant difference between the average vitamin D level in IBD patients and healthy controls. In addition, the overall pooled results showed that C-reactive protein (CRP) was 2.65 higher before vitamin D supplementation than after supplementation [SMD = 2.65, 95% CI = (2.26, 3.04)]. Moreover, patients with IBD in remission were 0.72 higher before vitamin D supplementation than after supplementation [OR = 0.72, 95% CI = (0.52, 1.00)]. Conclusion: This study suggested that there was no obvious relationship between pediatric IBD and vitamin D, while vitamin D supplementation can improve disease activity. Therefore, follow-up still needs many prospective studies to confirm the relationship between pediatric IBD and vitamin D.

Cerebral infarction (CI), also known as ischemic stroke, has a high incidence rate and mortality rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential effect and mechanism of Lymphocyte cytosolic protein 1 (LCP1) in the CI progression. The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) treated rats and oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) stimulated PC12 cells were used to establish CI model in vivo and in vitro. The cell proliferation and apoptosis was determined by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Immunoprecipitation and western blot was performed to test the lactylation levels of LCP1. The cells were treated with cycloheximide to determined the protein stability of LCP1. The glucose uptake and lactate production was determined with commercial kits. The extracellular acidification rate were evaluated by Seahorse. The results showed that LCP1 was upregulated in the MCAO rats and OGD/R stimulated PC12 cells. LCP1 knockdown dramatically decreased the neurological score, infarct volume and the brain water content of MCAO rats. Besides, LCP1 knockdown promoted the cell viability while decreased the apoptosis rate of the OGD/R stimulated PC12 cells. Additionally, the global lactylation and lactylation levels of LCP1 was prominently enhanced in vivo and in vitro in cerebral infarction. 2-DG treatment prominently decreased it. In conclusion, inhibiting the glycolysis decreased the lactylation levels of LCP1 and resulted in the degradation of LCP1, which eventually relieved the CI progression.

Purpose: Host immunity influences the impact of cancer therapy but the effect of immune status in radioiodine (RAI)-treated differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) remains obscure. Here we investigated indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) activity as a biomarker of response to RAI in patients with distant metastatic DTC (dmDTC). Methods: Patients with dmDTC receiving RAI were evaluated for serum IDO activity (kynurenine and kynurenine:tryptophan ratio) at baseline and 3 months after RAI. The optimal cut-off value for these biomarkers to predict response was established by receiver operating characteristic analysis. The relationship between disease outcomes, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), and IDO activity levels was studied. Results: Higher baseline kynurenine:tryptophan ratio (>2.46) was correlated with poorer RAI response as well as shorter median PFS (45 mo versus not reached, p=0.002) and OS (78 mo versus not reached, p=0.035). High baseline kynurenine:tryptophan ratio was also correlated with a reduced number of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. Higher post/pre-kynurenine ratio (>1.69) was associated with survival endpoints: shorter median PFS (48 mo versus not reached, p=0.002) and OS (68 mo versus not reached, p=0.010). Favorable baseline and favorable change corresponded with better PFS and OS. Conclusions: Our results suggest that RAI also alters IDO activity in dmDTC patients. IDO activity could predict progression and survival outcomes for advanced dmDTC patients. Serum IDO biomarker levels could be used to select dmDTC likely to benefit from RAI therapy, although further studies are necessary.

Background and Aims: Aptamers are artificial ligands that bind to biological targets with high specificity and affinity. We previously selected a group of aptamers against the serum of primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) via systematic evolution of ligands by exponential and enrichment (SELEX) method, and some of the aptamers were valuable for PHC diagnosis in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) analysis. Here, we used aptamers to develop a novel method suitable for the clinical diagnosis of PHC. Methods: The intensities of serum autofluorescence, cell-free DNA (cfDNA)-related fluorescence and aptamer-related fluorescence, named the aptamer-based triple serum fluorescence intensity (ATSFI), were sequentially measured at 8 °C and 37 °C in one tube by using a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system as a fluorimeter in patients with PHC (n=346) or liver cirrhosis (n=321). The diagnostic performances of ATSFI indicators alone and in combination were evaluated by area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUROC), and the underlying clinical mechanisms were analyzed by bivariate correlation. Results: The measurement of ATSFI was high throughput, rapid, convenient, and low cost. The aptamer-related fluorescence indicator SEA-SE37 was the most valuable for PHC diagnosis among all fluorescence indicators and superior to alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) (AUROC 0.879 vs. 0.836). The logistic model of ATSFI indicators exhibited excellent diagnostic performance for PHC, including AFP-negative, early and small PHCs, with AUROCs of 0.935-0.950 and accuracies of 86.8-88.3%. The diagnostic performance was further improved when ATSFI indicators were combined with AFP, with AUROCs of approximately 0.95 and accuracies of approximately 90%, suggesting ATSFI was independent of but complementary to AFP in PHC diagnosis. ATSFI models were highly valuable in clinical decision-making. The aptamer-related fluorescence intensity was generally independent of the clinicopathological characteristics of PHC but correlated with laboratory characteristics of PHC serum. Conclusions: The ATSFI assay is a novel, robust and feasible method for the clinical diagnosis of PHC.

Our previous work showed that a podophyllum derivative (D-3F), named 4-N-(2-Amino-3-fluoropyridine) -4-deoxidation-4'-demethylepipofophyllotoxin, inhibits the activity of topoisomerase II (TOPO II) and then results in DNA damage. Also, D-3F increases the expression of p53 to induce cervical cancer HeLa cell apoptosis by enhancing its stability, due to the translocation of RPL11 to interact with Mdm2 and then consequently causing the blockage of the Mdm2-p53 feedback loop. In present study, we further explored the detailed mechanism of the antitumor activity of D-3F against cervical cancer cell line. Firstly, the decreased level of protein interacting with carboxyl terminus 1 (PICT1) in cervical cancer cell lines (HeLa and SiHa) treated with D-3F, exerted its potent inhibitory effect on cellular proliferation, which was dependent on the inhibition of TOPO IIα activity induced by D-3F in vitro. In addition, the downregulation of PICT1 was required to enhancement of p53 stability, resulted from its promoting the nucleoplasmic translocation of RPL11 to bind to Mdm2 following D-3F treatment. Altogether, it demonstrated that the reduction of PICT1 level in HeLa cell line, as well as SiHa exposed to D-3F, a TOPO IIα inhibitor, may play an essential role in the regulation of RPL11/Mdm2/p53 pathway to induce cell apoptosis. Besides, it suggested the potential of this podophyllum derivative (D-3F) as an alternative agent for therapy in cervical cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To identify and utilize gene signatures for the prognostic evaluation of postoperative patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: The gene mRNA expression profiles and corresponding clinicopathological data of postoperative patients with HCC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Highly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in tumor tissues compared to adjacent tissues were identified, and their associations with the overall survival (OS) of HCC patients were analyzed. The strongly associated genes were used to develop a prognostic score for the survival stratification of HCC, and the underlying mechanisms were analyzed using bioinformatics. RESULTS: A total of 376 DEGs were identified and four DEGs (ADH4, COL15A1, RET and KCNJ16) were independently associated with OS. A prognostic score derived from the four genes could effectively stratify HCC patients with different OS outcomes, independent of clinical parameters. Patients with high scores exhibited poorer OS than patients with low scores (HR 5.526, 95% CI: 2.451-12.461, p < .001). The four genes were involved in cancer-related biological processes and were independent of each other in bioinformatics analyses. CONCLUSION: Four genes strongly associated with the prognosis of postoperative patients with HCC were identified, and the derived prognostic score was simple and valuable for overall survival prediction.

In this paper, an optical phased array (OPA) with wide beam steering angle and low side-lobe level is designed based on the hybrid approach of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and convex optimization (CVX). The optimization process is divided into two steps. First, the antenna spacing distribution of the OPA is designed to obtain a wide beam steering range by using a PSO algorithm. Second, based on the antenna spacing distribution obtained in the previous step, the CVX algorithm is used to obtain the excitation amplitude and phase distribution of the OPA under different beam steering angles. By using this approach, we design an OPA with 1024 antennas. The beam steering range of the OPA is ±60° and the side-lobe level is reduced to -24.65 dB.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, genetic variants of SARS-CoV-2 have been emerging and spreading around the world. Several SARS-CoV-2 endemic variants were found in United Kingdom, South Africa, Japan, and India between 2020 and April 2021. Studies have shown that many SARS-CoV-2 variants are more infectious than early wild strain and produce immune escape. These SARS-CoV-2 variants have brought new challenges to the prevention and control of COVID-19. This review summarizes and analyzes the biological characteristics of different amino acid mutations and the epidemic characteristics and immune escape of different SARS-CoV-2 variants. We hope to provide scientific reference for the monitoring, prevention, and control measures of new SARS-CoV-2 variants and the development strategy of the second-generation vaccine.
